Listening Comprehension
The best method of improving listening comprehension when learning English is to listen, test, and receive feedback. Students, who need to learn English and improve their comprehension, even if they live in a non-English speaking country, can benefit from these websites since they provide the necessary materials to learn how to comprehend English effectively through increasing their listening ability.
English Listening comprehension can be vastly improved through reading material. The list of four major language skills is: Listening, Speaking, Reading, And Writing. Listening well is one of the first lessons a beginning student should master and is one of the most important.
The internet is here with plenty of resources to help the beginning and intermediate student to hone the fine art of comprehension in listening and reading skills.
If you or the student does not happen to live in an English speaking country, then the lessons provided on various resources can help the student learn to hear English everywhere around them, even by listening to the radio in English to improve comprehension, expanding the ability to understand spoken English by listening to the news in English, and can help improve the skill sets involved in language learning by providing resources for practicing, listening, reading, writing, and comprehension lessons.
The student needs to put down the grammar books and open their ears. Often times students can be overwhelmed with striving to perfect their grammar and vocabulary without paying attention to the most important part of learning it, that is listening to the spoken language.
When we first learned our parent tongue we sat on our bums for the first two years of our lives and simply listened. This formed the basis of our being an "expert" in that language.
It stands to reason, then, that the better part of our time spent in learning English should be in just simply listening to it. By simply listening we can improve our comprehension of any language.
While not all English skills can be learned by listening, there will be a marked improvement in pronunciation, grammar, syntax, and comprehension just by exposure to the language on a constant basis. There are resources available on the net that provide lesson plans, tips, and guides to doing so effectively.
On of the main things to keep in mind is that language is not static, even though it is an art it is living and changing and evolving. From town to town, culture to culture, region to region, country to country, even English evolves to meet the needs of the local people who speak it.
By building a solid foundation of listening skills and of the English language, those who learn English can improve their skill set when they visit or move to various English speaking countries. Their listening comprehension skill set will prove to be a valuable tool in assimilating the local language culture into which they move.
